Despite Covid-19, the income of former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has increased and remains to be the highest individual taxpayer in the state.

Information about this has been received from the income tax return filed by the former captain and the details of advance tax given.
In the financial year 2020-21, the former captain had paid Rs 30 crore as income tax which means his taxable income last year was Rs 100 crore. In the financial year 2020-21, he had paid Rs 10 crore as advance tax from April 2020 to November 2020. In the current financial year 2021-22, he has deposited Rs 13 crore as advance tax from April 2021 to November 2021.

According to the advance tax paid by Dhoni during these two financial years till November, there will be an increase of 30 per cent during the current financial year as compared to the previous financial year which means his taxable income in the financial year 2021-22 is estimated to be Rs 130 crore.

The financial year 2020-21 started during the first wave of Covid-19 and for a long time during the first wave, the government did not give permission to organize the games because of which the IPL was also postponed.
After the conduction of half the IPL in India, the match was shifted to Dubai.

In the financial year 2021-22, the second wave of Covid-19 also led to the lockdown. But its duration was shorter than that of the first wave. Due to this, there was a gradual relaxation in the lockdown in the second wave. This led to the IPL being organized during the current financial year. Due to the IPL, the income of the former cricketer has been estimated to increase by 30 per cent compared to last year.

On 15 August 2020, Dhoni has announced his retirement from international cricket. He is not playing international one day cricket since 4 January 2017. Till now, Dhoni has played 90 test matches and 341 one day matches and 92 T20 International matches. Currently, he plays IPL for Chennai Super King where the team has retained him by paying Rs 12 crore.
